We are planning to provide a free
pick-up service between the Bradley Airport (Hartford, CT) or the
Hartford train/bus station/terminal and UConn campus during the
conference period. If you are interested, please let
us know the time of your arrival or departure well in advance
(preferably no later than the end of September) so that we can arrange
a ride. Please understand that we cannot guarantee everyone a ride,
i.e. this service will be limited and will be provided only on request.
Accommodation
information |
Reservations
should be made before OCTOBER 1, 2004. Any reservations made after
this date will be based on availability.
The NELS 35 organizers have blocked
a number of rooms at the Nathan Hale Inn, conveniently located on
the University of Connecticut Storrs campus, a 5-minute walk from
the venue of the upcoming NELS.
We have been able to secure reduced
rates for NELS participants as follows:
Special Group Rate (10/21/04 - 10/24/04)
$95.00/night
Single/Double Occupancy
(Triple/Quad under request)
Please note that the triple and quad
occupancy is available on request, but is still based on a two-bed
room. If you are on a low budget and would like to share the fixed
price of the room with more than one person, it is a good idea to
reserve the room as a group. If you need help in finding one or
more people to share a room with, let us know well in advance. However,
we cannot guarantee that we will find the perfect match for everyone.
We have been recently informed that
the University of Connecticut Homecoming
Weekend is scheduled to take place on the same weekend as NELS
35. This series of events includes a home game of the UConn Football
team. While this may add a little excitement to the campus, it may
also make finding accommodation a bit more problematic since everyone
will be competing for hotel space. The NELS organizers do have a
contract with Nathan Hale Inn, however we strongly encourage potential
participants to make their reservations as early as possible, whether
they will be staying at the Nathan Hale or in other local hotels.
Reservations should be made before
OCTOBER 1, 2004. Any reservations made after this date will be based
on availability. Once the block is full, rooms and rates will be
based on availability. To make a reservation and get the discounted
rate state that you are with the NELS CONFERENCE!

Please do not make reservations using
the website. It will not calculate your group rate.
If you don't make your reservation
on time, it is likely that the Nathan Hale will be all booked. The
closest alternative is the Best
Western Hotel in Mansfield (next to Big Y). Keep in mind that
in this case, local transportation (bus) is a bit limited (especially
during the weekend). So you may have to drive your own car or ask
for a ride to us.
Traveling to and from UConn can be
fairly easy with the right amount of planning. You can choose between
driving, flying, or taking a bus/train.
For participants coming from the New
England area driving is one of the best options. The University
of Connecticut Storrs campus is easily accessible from highway I-84
and Routes 6, 44 and 32, which are well-connected with the rest
of the area. As an additional benefit, you will enjoy the beauty
of New England's Fall colors! For driving directions and maps see
the following link:

If you intend to arrive by plane,
the closest airport is Bradley International Airport in Windsor
Locks, Connecticut, only 50 minutes away from campus. Other major
airports include Logan International Airport in Boston, MA (1 hour
and 45 minutes), JFK International Airport, NYC (around 4 hours),
Tweed Airport in New Haven, CT, and T.F. Green in Providence, RI
(1 hour). CT Transit provides shuttles from Bradley International
to Hartford, CT. Bonanza Bus Lines also provide service from Hartford,
CT to the UConn Storrs campus. Other shuttles are available through
CT Limo from JFK and La Guardia airports. For information on these
shuttles check the following link:
http://visitors.uconn.edu/notdrvng.htm
For buses to Storrs see:
http://www.bonanzabus.com
Amtrak trains are available from
New Haven, New York (Penn Station) and Boston (South Station) to
Hartford, CT. Metro North also offers a New York (Grand Central)
to New Haven, CT connection.
The Lodewick Visitors' Center offers
a wealth of information on traveling to UCONN. Their webpage is:
